Did you know about PMP Prerequisites

The Project Management Professional Examination also known as PMP is designed to assess the names – the experience of a professional in the management of projects. You will need to demonstrate both bits of knowledge of the theory of project management and experience in real life. The PMI offers a brief as well as a good overview of the requirements of the PMP for examination. PMI has also set up the formal application process for ensuring that you meet the PMP Prerequisites, and to describe your background in the following areas: training, work experience, and training in the field of project management.

Project Management Professional certification is not a simple sit-and-pass examination. Eligibility requirements for PMP are in place and must be met by each PMP certification applicant. Let us now have a look at the PMP Prerequisites for the PMP certification.

1. Education – First PMP Prerequisites

You must be a secondary (PMI classified as high school, GED, or associate) or the four-year post-secondary degree to qualify for the PMP. You can face different work experience requirements depending on your secondary or post-secondary degree.

You can focus on your secondary or post-secondary education and it does not have to be linked to project management (although it may save you time if related as you can see). You have fulfilled this requirement so long as you have your degree, transcription, or ability to prove your degree has been successful in your application.

2. Work Experience – Another important PMP Prerequisites

The most important part of your PMP application process is probably your work experience. You are required to provide the evidence which has led projects for 7 500 hours if you have the secondary degree.

Whether you like me, not in hours, but in days, weeks, months, or years, 7,500 hours of work are approximately 3 1⁄2 years of experience in project management.

In contrast, if you have a 4-year post-secondary degree, your management time is reduced to 4500 – or approximately 2 years of experience.

One important qualification for working experience is that one project can only be counted in a given time frame. You can, for example, only count one of these projects overlapping 6 months when leading two projects. This example would provide 6 months (approximately 1040 hours) of experience compared with 12 months (approximately 2,080 hours) of experience. This will make it easier to determine if you meet this requirement by thinking regarding your experience over the years.

Lastly, you must provide the following when you document work experience in the PMP application process:

  • The name of your project
  • The schedule, including the time spent on project management
  • Your supervisor’s contact information about this project

Please take this important fact into account when you finished the section: PMI selects students at random for auditing, and if you are audited, you need to sign up for the experience you have outlined in each project. Be honest to the section, do not jinx it!

3. The Education in Project Management – Most important PMP Prerequisites

Now on to your actual project management education: Irrespective of the degree obtainment or your work experience, you need to have a minimum of 35 hours of project management education. There are various ways wherein one can obtain theses hours, PMI also provides you with a handy list of the programs which counts towards the PMP prerequisites:
