Lean is an approach focusing the customers of an organization that believes in improving the business process of an organization. The lean principles believe that reducing the waste can satisfy the goal of continuous improvement of an organization. In the manufacturing industry, lean I used to maximize customer value while utilizing the least resource.
Though lean principles can be applied in service as well as the manufacturing sector. But in this article, we will focus upon how lean can play an essential role in the manufacturing industry. The lean principle, when applied in the manufacturing industry, makes sure that the flow of products and materials which are needed to improve the performance of the organization must be in a continuous flow. The waste can be in any form within an organization- it can be some activities, a few steps or even a complete process.
LEAN PRINCIPLES AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN MANUFACTURING SECTOR:
Creating Value: Value creation is the most significant factors among all the lean principles. It mainly focuses on the ultimate product that the customer receives. It is necessary for a manufacturing company to make products as their customers expect. The value of a given product is created by keeping that cost-effective, up to the mark and meeting all the quality standards.
Value Stream Creation: While a manufacturing organization is willing to create a value stream that is pretty simple and manageable. By simply re-engineering the steps involved in the manufacturing process, the value stream creation can be done. For an organization, it is imperative to identify the steps that create value to the organization. The rest of the actions which consume unnecessary cost or time must get removed from the process.
Flow Process: In this step of the lean six sigma process, the previously followed process of the manufacturing gets replaced with the new and the lean process. In this process, the work function of the manufacturing process of the organization is redefined, and it is made sure that the process can add some positive contribution. The new process also focuses upon the loopholes of the previous manufacturing process and what the employees need within the organization for better productivity.
This stage is needed in every manufacturing process for a smooth and flawless production flow.
Paying Respect: Though this is an underlying industry culture, still, it is a part of the lean principles. The Lean practitioners must ensure that it is being followed throughout an organization. The employees of an organization must understand the hierarchy of the organization and must carry respect for all their fellow employees and other organizational bodies. It creates harmony and positive work culture within the organization. Executing this principle in an organization helps in effectively implementing the Lean principle in an organization.
Improvisation: After the lean principles are completely implemented within an organization the practitioners may find that there is still some point of improvements in the manufacturing process. As lean principles are based on continuous improvement, the search for the scopes remains continued.
The organization can provide specialized training to its members to help them to better understand the lean principles. Assistance and mentoring can be provided to the staff members of the organization to achieve a better result through implementing the lean principles.
WHY USE LEAN PRINCIPLES RIGHT AWAY:
Lean manufacturing not only increases productivity while reducing the cycle time of an organization, but it also benefits the organization in many other ways like:
Expanding product quality: Quality is the best USP of a product. Lean focuses on quality control and takes charge of the previous wastages.
Improving lead time: If the manufacturing process can be adequately streamlined, an organization can be able to respond to the market demands and other fluctuations.
Employee Satisfaction: When an organization follows the lean process, the employees of the organization are aware of their daily routine and target. The employees remain less packed up with unnecessary works, which affects their morale negatively.
Increased Profit: Needless to say, that when an organization brings improvements in every loophole, they increase their profit as well. Less waste and better quality help an organization to grow in manifold ways.
